TREATMENTS
While the treatments are listed individually for clarity, more often I combine them together in the sessions.
Massage
The massage work I do includes Swedish massage, deep tissue, myofascial release and shiatsu. My work will address the superficial as well as the deep tissue; I believe in warming up the tissue thoroughly before moving in deeply. I love to use cupping, gua sha and essential oils, but those will always be optional and only used if you love them too (or are curious). Massage is such a wonderful therapy for keeping muscles healthy and functioning properly, and also increases circulation of blood and lymph. The relaxation that massage brings also helps to calm the nervous system, which just about everyone needs.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a medical system from China. Very fine needles are used to reduce pain, calm the nervous system, increase circulation and assist in the body's own healing. Acupuncture can be used for such a wide variety of conditions; the World Health Organization (WHO) has a complete list if you are interested. To just name a few, acupuncture assists with the recovery of physical injuries, reducing areas of tension in the body, it helps with acute and chronic illness and the many manifestations of stress in the body. Acupuncture is also a great resource for mental/emotional conditions, such as anxiety, excess worry, over thinking, and insomnia. This complimentary medicine is used throughout the United States and the world and is gaining lots of momentum because it works so well. Come see what acupuncture has to offer you.
Cupping
Cupping has received much attention of late, but the technique has been around for thousands of years. It has been used in China and many other areas around the world for healing and health. In my practice I use three kinds of cups, depending on what is needed. I use fire cups/glass cup, pump cups and glass bulb cups All three can be used to manually lengthen the muscle and fascia and to pull up stagnation that has settled in the tissue due to trauma, injury, or just because the muscle has been tight for so long. This stagnation is pulled to the surface, so that it can be removed by the body. This stagnation of blood, lactic acid, etc. is what you see when the cup comes off and there is redness or a purple color, it’s called sha, it is not a bruise. Cupping can be included in any treatment or as a stand-alone treatment.
Acupuncture Aroma Therapy
Acupuncture aroma therapy(AAT) uses essential oils to influence the acupuncture points. This is a lovely and powerful way to do acupuncture needle free. AAT can be used as a stand-alone treatment, but is often used in conjunction with acupuncture or massage. Just a drop of oil is gently applied to acupuncture points; I find that people are amazed at what they experience with just that one drop of oil. This done over several acupuncture points is a powerful experience.
Moxa
Moxa is a Chinese herb called AI Ye or Mugwort. This is one of my favorite healing modalities to add to treatment sessions. Moxa can be used to warm an area and increase circulation. Mugwort can be used on acupuncture points or in combination with the acupuncture needles. Moxa is great for areas of pain or tension and much more.
Table Thai/Shiatsu
Shiatsu and Table Thai is done clothed on top of the massage table. Stretches are applied to lengthen muscles and warm up the joints while acupuncture meridians are pressed with thumbs, palms, elbows and sometimes knees. This treatment can be added to acupuncture treatments or done as a stand-alone treatment.
Herbal Prescription
Herbal medicine offers you a powerful ally to promote your own health and well-being. Herbal medicine can be used for common colds, muscle injuries, joint pain, and menopausal symptoms, to name just a few. Taking herbal formulas is a way for you to continue your treatment outside of the clinic and offers daily support to speed up recovery. When an herbal formula is appropriate for your condition, it is available in a variety of preparations including teas, capsules, tinctures and topical applications. Several appointments will be necessary for determining a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnosis, as well as monitoring progress of the formula while you are taking it.
